Fresh 48 Sessions: Capturing the First Hours With Your New Baby
There is something incredibly special about the first 48 hours after your baby arrives. Everything is new—the tiny fingers wrapped around yours, the sleepy stretches, the hospital bracelet around their little wrist, and the way you can’t stop staring at the brand-new person you’ve been waiting so long to meet.
Those first hours pass in a blur, which is exactly why I love Fresh 48 sessions.
What is a Fresh 48 session?
A Fresh 48 session is a relaxed, lifestyle photography session that takes place within the first 24–48 hours after your baby is born, usually right in your hospital room.
Unlike a traditional newborn session, there are no elaborate poses, props, or backdrops. Fresh 48 photography is about documenting your family exactly as you are in this moment—new, emotional, a little tired, and completely in love.
These sessions capture the details you may not realize you'll miss until they're gone:
- That tiny hospital bassinet
- Wrinkly newborn toes and fingers
- Hospital bracelets
- Sleepy yawns and stretches
- Snuggles with Mom and Dad
- Feeding and comforting your baby
- Big siblings meeting the baby
- The way your newborn looks impossibly small in your arms
- All of those quiet little moments in between
Why Book a Fresh 48 Session?
The newborn stage changes unbelievably fast. Even by the time you arrive home from the hospital, your baby may already look different.
And while everyone has a phone nearby, those first hours aren't a time when you should have to worry about taking pictures.
Instead, you get to simply be there.
I'll document the little details and connections while you soak in your newest family member. Years from now, these photographs won't just remind you what your baby looked like—they'll remind you what those first days felt like.
You Don't Need to Look "Photo Ready"
One of the biggest concerns I hear from new moms is:
"But I just had a baby. I'm not going to look ready for pictures!"
You don't need to.
Fresh 48 sessions aren't about perfect hair, perfect makeup, or a perfectly styled hospital room. They're about connection.
Wear something comfortable. Snuggle your baby. Let the blankets be messy. Let your toddler climb onto the hospital bed to meet their new sibling.
The beauty of these photographs is in their honesty.
When Should You Book Your Fresh 48 Session?
Because babies rarely arrive according to schedule, Fresh 48 sessions are reserved based on your due date rather than an exact session date.
Once your baby arrives, you'll contact me and we'll coordinate your session while you're still in the hospital.
For that reason, it's best to reserve your Fresh 48 session before baby arrives so I can plan around your expected delivery window.
Your Baby Will Never Be This Little Again
Someday, that hospital bracelet won't fit around even one of their fingers.
You'll forget exactly how tiny they looked tucked against your chest. The newborn wrinkles will disappear. Those impossibly small toes will grow.
But you'll have the photographs.
If you're expecting a baby in the York, Pennsylvania and surrounding area and want those first fleeting hours documented, I'd love to capture them for you.
Fresh 48 sessions are available through Simply Because Photography.
Reach out before your due date to reserve your session and let me document the very beginning of your baby's story. ❤️
Fresh 48 vs. Newborn Photography
A Fresh 48 session documents those first emotional hours in the hospital, while a newborn session takes place a little later and gives us more time to create the beautiful, carefully styled newborn portraits you see in my portfolio.
They tell two completely different parts of your baby's story.
For families who want to remember everything from those first hospital snuggles to baby's tiny newborn portraits
